The DH meets the Albino Burmese Python
In vintage Filipino comics, there is a character called Zuma. He was a bald-headed muscle bound man who had a huge 2-headed snake on his shoulders. The DH could be his stand-in! :)
I'm actually more at ease with pythons now. The 1st time I touched one was in Davao in 2009. There were about 10 of us in a row and we held 1 16-ft python among us. What freaked me out then was feeling its huge muscles moving under the cool dry skin, yikes! This time, it was't as bad.
I cannot help but admire it's sleek gorgeousness! Truly God's gift.
With Edna, the Zoo's curator and Tito Elic's girl Friday
My SIL Arlene and her daughter Isabelle
My BIL Ricky trying to soothe the snake.
There was even the extremely rare Albino Visayan Spotted Deer
...and her sweet little fawn.
Tito Elic had carnivorous plants on his porch. He had both local and imported varieties of the pitcher plants. And even Venus flytraps but they just small buds where the "mouths" were supposed to grow from.
I didn't catch what this particular cockatoo's real species name was but Tito Elic said it's one of the 50 rarest birds of all times. And he has this one trained to fly to his hand.
A souvenir shot outside his house (around which the Zoo is situated)
Over all, it was a fun day for all of us. Even if we missed lunch! We did eat it, but about 3 hours late. Yeah, we got really caught up with all the animals and taking all those photos. I had brought a small pan of my Walnut-Raisin-Chocolate Banana bread, and the slices practically flew off the pan with so many hungry adults and kids digging in.
Hope you can come visit this tiny but oh-so-packed zoo soon too. Truly an educational experience for kids and adults alike. :)
Abientot, mes amis!
