yahoooooooo!!! my camera has been discharged from the hospital, er, service center! after almost 2 months at the digi-ICU, iv finally gotten my pet back! im ecstatic about it...can you tell?! :)
sure, iv gotten used to taking pix with my camera phone, but havent been totally happy with them (they turn out ok when taken outdoors but they are frankly crappy otherwise!). not being able to mount my (phone)camera on a tripod has likewise cramped my photo-ops too. but im still grateful that it has served me well during my digi-cam-less months. but boy, im glad to have my camera back!!!! everybody has been warned, im gonna be making up for lost time, shooting everyone and everything, and the camera will not leave my side from now on!! im a crazy lady when it comes to taking pix, no doubt about it,lol!
my poor hubby, he has to contend with me and my camera. he has never been a fan of camera especially as a kid. when he was like 2 or 3 years old,he walked out of his own birthday party because he hated all the hoopla with the cake and the crowds! yeah, he was fairly anti-social, to put it mildly, haha! but its a testament to my hubby's love that he tolerates my constant camera-toting and shooting. thank you honey for letting me be me!
although the camera was still under-warranty, it couldnt be fixed for free, since it was water-damage that did it in. it had gone spelunking with us in siquijor...and met its watery death there! we were taking pix just before we entered the cave, and i was just about to put it back into my waterproof bag, when the lady guide offered to carry it around her neck so she could take pix of us inside. stupid me, i trusted that being one of the guides, she would know how not to get it wet! there were 2 guides helping us: 1 male who led and lighted the way for the DH, and the lady guide taking up the rear, likewise lighting my way. 2 minutes into the descent, we had to clamber over huge boulders to get down to stream at the bottom of the cave. so you can imagine my horror when i heard a huge splash just behind me! the guide had missed her footing and had fallen into chest high water...and being like a few inches short of 5feet, it must have been neck high for her!! so my poor(non-waterproofed) camera got a healthy dousing, dang! i could have kicked myself about not insisting to put it safely into my rubber-ducky bag from the get-go!!!!
so long story short, the camera conked out on the 1st day of our siquijor island holiday...and i had to contend myself to pix taken from our cellphones the rest of the trip. sigh, it was not a good beginning...and it truly dampened our spirits. i doubt if we'll ever go back to siquijor after that unfortunate incident. but iv nobody to blame but me-self indeedy!
i was pretty convinced i would have to kiss that camera adios, but id gotten it as a christmas present from the DH, so it was just 5 months old at the time. it felt such a waste to kiss good money godbye, bugged me no end i tell ya. i could hardly ask the DH for another, unless i was willing to wait for another christmas, lol! i finally decided to have it checked at the local service center. and i was fortunate enough to have befriended the tech-guy! i got it back for only P2,300 (for labor and parts)..although i did give him a wee tip for his trouble. sure helps to be nice and friendly with the techie-guy! he even taught me how to manually reformat my cellphone when it flaked on me. thank you larry!
but i must admit i was mildly excited about window-shopping for a new camera. iv been yearning for a dslr for the longest time...but those things cost a pretty bundle. i think i could afford one, but im sure the DH would balk at the unwarranted expense.(i love that he is a saver, he keeps me in check! had he been like me, we'd be seriously in debt, LOL!) anyway, since i wouldnt be able to get a dslr, id have to make do with another point-and-shoot. one can get an ok-model for less than P5-6T these days.
but thankfully, i didnt have to go the P&S route again, knowing i wouldnt be truly happy with one anymore. i like to believe im ready to go the manual(or semi-manual) way already. but that can still wait...! in the meantime, im just happy to have a camera on hand so i can take pix for my scrapbooks! and since the DH and i are going to manila 2 weeks from now, im doubly happy to have a camera to document our full-packed trip. we're going to surprise anoy bong for his birthday, and maybe go to tagaytay for a daytrip. then we've plans to go the manila ocean park and then malling. it also seems that we'l be going on a major food-trip while we're there...joben, the DH's younger brother has our feeding schedule all planned out....yooohooo, cant wait!
talk to you again later...<3
