groan, getting up this morning was sooo hard. after a really busy day yesterday, i had half a mind to play hookey today. but i didnt...my, what self-control and dedication, hehe.
we had decided to have our much-postponed labs done yesterday. so we woke up 8ish so the DH could breakfast at 8:30 and get his 2HPPBS(2 hour postprandial blood sugar)test, among others. i opted not to have breakfast, instead i was gonna endure the fast til 10:30. but i stashed a water bottle and a packet of trail mix to tide me over after the exam. we got to the diagnostic center II before 10am and i did the paperwork for the both of us: chest xrays and blood work, and my TVS(transvaginal ultrasound with leah). after doing the cxr's and blood extraction, i met leah at the ultrasound room for my follicle monitoring scan. it was my day 12, and my beautifully large 1.7cm [goal being 1.8-2cm) dominant follicle was staring back at us from my left ovary! my (previously-perceived-to-be-elderly,lol) ovaries have responded enthusiastically to the clomiphene that MBJ supplied and produced a dominant follicle that was on the brink of rupture later that night or the day after. so we were surprised to find our "schedule" had been moved up a week...oh well. DH coined a new term for it: a cram-****!! and to think that he had even gone to judo practice the night before![the DH is an exercise-junkie, he gets lethargic and out-of-sorts when he cant get some exercise in, so he was planning to suspend all judo and weight-training starting this weekend yet.nothing we can do about that now, we just have to rise to the occasion, (sori for the pun, kiddo),lol!]
leah also said i should try getting an HCG shot to help things along. she called an infertility OB-GYNE( the wife of my med-school brod) and she luckily had a shot available at her clinic, which we could pick up later that day.
we managed to convince leah to have lunch with us at the resto beside diagnostic...and we thoroughtly enjoyed the yummy mexican food we all ordered. i got the beef tacos (since i have been craving them since the previous weekend), DH got the burrito and buffalo wings, and leah got some quesadillas. while i greedily plowed through my tacos (with a little help from the DH,who loved the spicy beef slivers,no ground meat here)... he and leah werent able to finish their orders off, so they have them doggy-bagged for snacks later.
when we got back to the labs, they already had our results ready:
> CXR's were normal for the both of us (that's me sighing with relief: i havent gotten infected from the hundreds of patients i see with TB, after all)
>CBC: both were nice and rosy, what with the mtvs we take
>Chemistries: NV:
2HPPBS (for DH) 107 not >130
FBS (for me) 96.64 60-100mgs%
Creatinine DH: 1.1 06-1.2
me: 0.7
Uric Acid DH: 9.8 4-8.5
Total Cholesterol DH: 252.47 150-250
me: 186.90
SGPT DH: 34.1 4-36
me: 16.4
>HBsAg for DH: non reactive
to summarize: my labs were fairly in order while the DH's are straddling the high-normal values if not a bit over. he's relieved that his blood sugar is still normal but im scheduling him for an FBS and a lipid profile by next week or so. then will start him on allopurinol for his uric acid, even if he doesnt presently have painful joints (altho he says he cant be totally sure if the pains he feels are frankly arthritic or brought on by the rigors of judo and martial arts, sigh.) anyway, will start him on meds and then recheck his labs after 2-3 weeks.
he's negative for hep B so will also be scheduling him for hepB vaccination soon.
i decided to leave our xray films at the lab so we'll have baseline films in case we need follow-up exams in the future. id hate to bring them home and they get lost in the clutter, hehe.
after bidding leah goodbye, we headed to MAB to pick up the HCG (pregnyl) shot and i bought a syringe from the drugstore so i could inject it when we got home. which i thoroughly hated by the way, self-inflicted pain is sooo not my thing! :( i balked just as i brought the needle down, i couldnt stand looking at the skin dimpling under the needlepoint and i almost quit right there. but i realized i didnt have a nurse or midwife i could call to do it to me...and thanks to the sharpness of the needle, it quickly sank into my thigh, so i couldnt do anything but aspirate and inject the 1cc in! that was a nasty experience! ugh. i will not be doing that anytime soon, i promise. since id done it while the DH was taking a shower, he chastised me for not waiting for him to do it to me...sweet guy, he knew it'd be horrid for me. but since he was neither a nurse nor a midwife, i guess i didnt want to ask and be declined. but i might just take him up on his offer in the future. but i really hope the "next time" wont be necessary, fingers crossed. would save me a pretty penny too, lol.
after all that excitement, i fairly conked out for a nap. so did the DH, but he got up earlier than i did coz he had gotten hungry. left-over burrito became his snack while i had a handful of trailmix.
we had to leave soon after coz we were meeting up at the wake for the mother of our fightclub friends. ricardo was there with his dad, his sisters leanna and diane, and riguel, who was also FC. the sisters kept apologizing about all the ranting they were subjecting us to...but we assured them that it was perfectly understandable, totally appropriate, and part of the grieving process. they were pretty emotional about the kind of care(or lack of it) that their mother received at a local hospital before she died. i really cant judge since i wasnt there during their ordeal. but i can relate to the frustration and anguish involved with caring and losing a loved one. if i had a hard time with the staff at st paul's hospital(reportedly the premier hospital in iloilo, but which totally sucked in terms of service, in my opinion!:()... and im a doctor, how much more difficult for the non-medical person not privy to the behind-the-scenes workings of medicine and illness! losing a loved one is really tough, no argument about it...and we all have to suffer that sooner or later.
still, we were able to move past the unfortunate circumstances leading to the demise of the late dianela jalandoni valdes...and steer the talk along more happier memories and reminiscing! until we were sharing high-fives and laughs with them! inspite of the unhappy reason for the gathering,we still had a nice time with ricardo's sisters.
another FC young 'un, leonard, linus' younger brother, was also there, and we found out that we hadnt seen each other in 5 years! he was back in town to review for his ECE exams. good luck, little brother! hope you do well.
of course, carjo was also there, way before we arrived and she is really excited to have her hubby mark come home next week! we're meeting up thursday night at anoy bill's place for drinks to welcome mark home..and also to celebrate zyther's bday(our godson). here's hoping we'l still be able to go to work the next day...but knowing the habits of the gang..im not holding my breath for that.:)
so anyway, we stayed to chat and catch up till past 10, but had to beg out when i started getting hunger pangs (trailmix can only tide one over to a limit). we went to this palabok store next door to RH,and i ordered the ricebowl with tendon(not the anatomical type but the battered shrimp kind), which i practically inhaled in my hunger. DH was laughing at my haste,LOL! i felt somebody had kicked me in the gut after that, i tell ya!
it was another late night for us, finally conking past one. but not before part 1 of our "present project"! following mbj's advice to do the butt-lift was pretty hard to do...what with a distended belly, even with the DH's help, lol! (oh sweet baby, the things you make us do for you!!)LOL!
so after conking out waay past my bedtime last night, it was a chore getting up this morning.but i managed, barely. clinic at LJ was just the same, coming home later in the day. and il been here since...
DH called mid afternoon to talk about the new "dolls" he got from raymond...and of our plans for tonight, haha! we also talked about our new diets in the days to come. he said he is kinda happy to embark on a much-healthier lifestyle, altho he was a teeny-bit depressed after getting the results yesterday. he is pretty ok about cutting back on meats and adopting the more-fish-and-veggies route. no more quarter-pounder burgers for us kiddo! i have to admit its gonna be more difficult for me, im a carne-vore,waaaiiilll! from now on, we will just have 1 meat/fish dish and then veggies. wish me luck. and time to find and try out healthier recipes for my family. which reminds me..i need to find a recipe for the canned pink salmon...yum!
DH said he'll be dropping by RH again later since tonight is the last night of the wake.
be back again tomorrow. a bientot!
